Apple is taking a major step into the generative AI race. According to multiple reports, the company has developed an internal ChatGPT-style application designed to test and refine a completely revamped version of Siri.
The new app, sometimes referred to internally as “Veritas”, is not intended for public release. Instead, it acts as a sandbox tool for Apple engineers, allowing them to experiment with large language model (LLM) technology and evaluate how Siri could handle more natural, conversational interactions.
Why This Matters
For years, Siri has lagged behind rivals like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and more recently, AI chatbots such as ChatGPT. By building its own LLM-powered assistant, Apple is signaling that it intends to close that gap and potentially leap ahead with a deeply integrated AI experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Reports suggest that this overhauled Siri—sometimes referred to as “LLM Siri”—will debut with iOS 26 in 2025 or 2026, some months after the iPhone 17 lineup has been out. The assistant is expected to handle more complex queries, maintain context in conversations, and integrate more seamlessly with Apple’s ecosystem of apps and services.

Unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, Apple’s test app is not consumer-facing. Instead, it’s a behind-the-scenes tool meant to stress-test the models and refine Siri’s ability to deliver accurate, reliable, and private responses. This fits Apple’s long-standing strategy of prioritizing user privacy and tight ecosystem control over rapid public experimentation.
